If you’re going to a pick-your-own farm:
• Always call first, to check the hours, weather and crop availability. Ask if take-home containers are provided. If you have a long drive or you plan to stop somewhere, take a cooler.
• Some small crops, particularly berries and grapes, may be in the yards of private homes rather than large farms. Be respectful of operating days and hours.
• Try to pick in the morning or evening, when it’s cooler. Always take water, a hat and wear clothes you don’t mind getting muddy.Kathleen Purvis
