This week's featured runner is well-known Charlotte runner and fitness leader, Janis Smith. A 20-year veteran of running, Janis is a certified USA Track & Field Level One Coach, RRCA Running Coach and CrossFit Endurance Coach. She serves as the group exercise coordinator at the Childress Klein YMCA Uptown where she also leads training programs for local runners. In her free time, Janis enjoys coaching CrossFit Endurance at CrossFit Dilworth.

If you're interested in training with Janis, the Childress Klein YMCA will be hosting a half marathon endurance training, To Go Long, You Have to Be Strong. This program will runs from August 19-November 11 and meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-7 a.m.
It's a high-intensity, low-volume training program that blends sprints, time trials, endurance runs and tempo runs! It's ideal for runners wanting to get faster and stronger and improve all fitness/performance. Participants will learn proper running mechanics and will be provided a gait analysis. Improvements in power, speed, economy of movement, lean body mass along with confidence will be achieved! Group presentations will be offered on topics such as proper shoes, injury prevention, race day preparation, as well as a one-on-one nutrition session with a registered dietitian.
