It's time for the Weekend Run + Refuel. Each week we provide you with a new local running route along with a suggestion on where to grab brunch or lunch after.
Last week featured a 5 mile run through Myers Park and Eastover with brunch at littleSpoon.
This week brings us to Elizabeth for a quick three mile run with a refuel at Sunflour Baking Company. I purposefully shortened this week's run down to around a 5K distance because I guarantee that all you're going to be thinking about during the run is when it will be over so you can hit up Sunflour.
Here are the details on the run and refuel!
The run begins and ends at Sunflour Baking Company on 7th Street in the heart of Elizabeth.
You'll wind around Independence Park which opened in 1907 and is Charlotte's oldest park.
The run also takes you down Elizabeth Avenue where you can find a variety of neighborhood restaurants, bars and music venues.
You'll finish up on some residential streets where you can enjoy scenic tree-lined streets and cute, historic bungalows.
Here are the turn by turn directions:
Begin on 7th Street in front of Sunflour and run down 7th towards Uptown
Turn left on Armory Drive
Turn left on Charlottetown
Turn left on Elizabeth Avenue
Turn left on Travis Avenue
Keep right onto Park and follow it around the park
Turn right on Clement
Turn right on Bay
Turn left on Pecan for a second and then right again to stay on Bay Street
Turn right on Bascom Street
Turn right on 7th
Arrive back at Sunflour
Now, let's talk food + coffee!
Sunflour Baking Company is a locally owned bakery that serves baked goods, break, coffee, espresso and breakfast/lunch sandwiches. Everything you get at Sunflour is made from scratch and without chemicals, artificial flavoring and preservatives. It's one of my favorite spots in Charlotte.
You can enjoy locally roasted, organic French pressed coffee.
Or beautiful lattes and other espresso drinks.
If you're in the mood for something sweet, Sunfour offers a mouthwatering selection of baked goods including cupcakes, muffins, croissants, cinnamon rolls, cookies, homemade granola bars and more. If you're in the mood for something savory, go for a sandwich on their housemade bread. They have everything from egg-based breakfast sandwiches to tuna melts to BLTs.
Sunflour is the perfect place to kick back, catch up with a friend and refuel post run! Have a great weekend and happy running.
