Sherry Pollex, owner of Lavendar boutique in Mooresville, is all about fashion and helping those in need, especially children. She combined her passions along with the love of her life, NASCAR driver Martin Truex Jr., and together they organize the annual Catwalk For A Cause fashion show fundraiser. The fifth annual event was May 14 at Merino's Home Furnishings in Mooresville and raises money for the Martin Truex Jr. Special Needs Fund at Levine Children’s Hospital.
Professional models along with some of Sherry and Martin’s friends who look like models, including stylist Erica Hanks, plus driver Ryan Newman walked the runway in summer styles from Lavandar, Luna's at the Lake, Fresh, Avalilly's, Taylor Richards & Conger, and L Squared.
The highlight is always the young models ages 6 to 18 who really shine on the runway. All of them are cancer patients at Levine Children’s Hospital, and it’s their night to forget about their illness and focus on looking fabulous and having fun while they soak up the love from the 650 guests cheering them on, including NASCAR drivers Dale Earnhardt Jr., Danica Patrick and Casey Mears. The children showed off casual clothing from Ella Moss and Splendid.
The runway show ended with Truex holding an adorable lion cub as the kids clutched toy tigers to tie in with a video they made to the tune of Katy Perry’s hit song “Roar.” That was so perfect since the children may not realize how their courage inspires others. As the lyrics go, they have the eye of the tiger, they’ve danced through the fire and they’re champions.
