When elaborately dressed guests sit down to dinner Saturday on the Belk Theater stage – beneath a Babylonian-themed set – they’ll be doing more than celebrating the season-opening performance of “Nabucco.”
Opera Carolina’s Bella Notte gala that night marks the 10th anniversary of the black-tie fundraiser. Limited to 300 guests, it attracts Charlotte leaders in arts, philanthropy, politics and business.
Laura Vinroot Poole and Perry Poole, who chaired the gala in 2008, are spearheading this evening, which honors all the past gala co-chairs. We don’t want to give away all the surprises – though we can tell you the night will include lush decor by John Lupton, a Middle Eastern-inspired dinner from Best Impressions Catering, and dancing to the 18-piece Ray Caddell Orchestra.
Instead, we offer a look back at a few of our favorite gowns from the past nine Bella Notte galas, at which Charlotte sees some of its haute-est fashion of the year.
