Our engagement day started out initially as a bummer. I was feeling down because that morning I took my car into the dealership and had to spend over $600 on repairs. After I returned home, David came over and we went for a nice long run. (We lived separately until we were married.) Then we returned to my home, and David told me he wanted to cook me a special dinner before we went to church that evening. He would not let me come downstairs until he was finished cooking. When I finally came downstairs, the lights were off and there were candles burning. A nice bouquet of flowers was at my place setting, and David had cooked a wonderful gnocchi dinner.
We ate, and I noticed that next to David was what appeared to be a new Bible. I questioned him about it several times - why he had it at our romantic dinner and when he bought it. He dodged the questions and only said that he had been reading something cool in the Bible that he wanted to share with me. This was not unusual. After we finished eating, he showed me in the book of Joshua where Joshua renewed the covenant between God and His people and set up a giant stone in a field as a reminder for the people that they were in a covenant with the Lord. David had the verses underlined in pink. When I finished reading, he told me that he wanted to give me a stone that would be a reminder of his covenant with me every time I looked at it. I turned a few more pages and the Bible was hollowed out with my engagement ring in the center. I was blown away and speechless.
Bridget and David were married on April 3, 2009.
