It only took one moment for Dustin Draughon to realize how strongly he felt about Shelton Stone. The couple met tubing and kayaking at a mutual friend's house. After multiple attempts, Dustin finally got a chance to talk to Shelton. "Luckily, I was somehow able to overcome this exhaustion and my shyness and hit it off with Shelton," Dustin says.Once they started dating, the couple soon got into the routine of the supporting Dustin's brother at his football games every Friday. On the way to the Friday games, Shelton would always mention how she would love to stop and visit Shelton Vineyards in Dobson. That helped to spark the month-long plan for the picture perfect proposal in one of Shelton's dream spots. One of the most amazing things, says Shelton, is that “Dustin managed to keep it a secret from me in the weeks leading up to the day. Throughout the entire relationship he has never been able to keep a secret!"During the planning process, Shelton and Dustin had stroke of luck to win Carolina Bride’s ‘trousseau’ at the Bridal Showcase. With a credit toward her veil, restaurant gift cards, a hotel stay, a wedding gown cleaning with Cunningham Cleaners, and even her bridal portrait covered, the couple was able to focus on other important details. They decided on a traditional wedding at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, with a unity cross as an important component of the ceremony. "The cross is displayed in our home as a daily reminder of our wedding day and the covenant that we both made to one another," Shelton says. Although Hurricane Sandy pushed through Charlotte on the day of their wedding, Dustin and Shelton learned a lesson about love through the natural disaster. “Dustin and I have learned not to sweat the small stuff and remember that as long as we have each other that’s all we need."
