When Karl Bitz got down on one knee, and Kristin LaBeau said, “yes,” there was no question that the two would be married on the campus of Cornell University. Having met as freshmen there and beginning a relationship in their junior year, the campus was incredibly significant for them—even beyond the fact that several members of both their immediate families and previous generations attended the school as well. As they got into the planning process, this DIY bride knew she’d have to put in a lot of work to get the results she wanted: “Sage Chapel is where we got married, and because it’s a university there are restrictions. It’s not like a banquet hall—you pick the place, but everything else you pretty much have to coordinate,” says Kristin. “I made all the runners, the flags, the vases, the guest book tree We put together all the old pictures of my parents and grandparents on their wedding days, too.” One professional Kristin was set on, however, was Lindsey Lee Photography. “Lindsey was [my friend’s] photographer, and I followed her blog every since,” says Kristin. “She does the most beautiful pictures, and I knew that when I got married I would call her. She was the one thing I knew right away.” Sure to capture all the highlights, Lindsey was able to get great shots of one of the couple’s favorite moments, their processional to the reception across Cornell’s campus, including a chimes concert on the clock tower with several Beatles songs. Upon arrival, a family-style dinner by Word of Mouth Catering showcased the region’s local and seasonal vegetables with a farm-to-table menu, and the coconut cake with cream cheese frosting and fresh raspberries, blueberries, and strawberries sweetened the end of the meal. After the weekend came to a close, Kristin and Karl drove off into the sunset—literally—as they headed up to Nantucket for a laid-back honeymoon at the Union Street Inn.
