Sometimes love finds people in the most unexpected places, and for Stephanie Tarnowicz and Matt Korecki, that place was a Red Cross charity event. Matt, a local firefighter, was actually at the event as a participant in the live date auction. And after chatting with him a bit beforehand, Stephanie knew she had to bid on a date with him.
Unfortunately, Stephanie ended up losing the bidding war. But while she didn’t end up winning, she didn’t walk away without a date. After the auction, Matt walked over to continue their conversation and eventually asked for her number. A first date and a few years later, Matt was sliding an engagement ring on her finger in the middle of Central Park. “I was so surprised,” recalls Stephanie. “I, of course, said yes!”
When it came time to plan the wedding, Stephanie and Matt knew they wanted a classic, simple affair that would frame their love story. They chose to marry at Morning Star Lutheran Chapel, a little white church in Matthews. Stephanie loved the beauty of the old wooden floors and pews and the intimate feel of the small space. For their reception they chose the Palmer Building, an old, converted fire school, to pay homage to how they met and Matt’s career. “Our style is classic through and through,” says Stephanie. “We kept our decorations simple to complement the architectural elements of each space.”
From the vows to cutting the cake, the day was filled with beautiful moments. One of the most memorable was the first look they shared with photographer Erin Kranz. “I was just a ball of nerves,” laughs Stephanie. “But having that intimate moment by ourselves was so special.”
Never miss a local story.
