“Chip’s friend was actually trying to pick me up and he was the wingman,” says Veronica Acut. “Turns out he wasn’t a very good wingman because I fell for him instead.”

It took five years for Chip Getz to transcend from ex-wingman to groom, but not before much anticipation. “He actually asked my parents for permission to marry me a whole year in advance,” says Veronica.

Spending a year with a ring burning a hole in his pocket, Chip had ample time to plan out every detail of the proposal. He hired paparazzi to capture the moment in front of the iconic Gapstow Bridge in Central Park and made arrangements for a celebratory champagne lunch.

Veronica and Chip kept the romantic theme alive throughout their wedding, opting for soft décor in hues of ivory, blush and metallic.

Incorporating family into their ceremony was very important for the pair. With Veronica’s Filipino heritage in mind, they honored her culture’s wedding traditions by having three sets of godparents take part in the coin, veil, and cord ceremonies. Chip’s brother, a Lutheran pastor, officiated the vows.

Of the many fond memories Veronica has of her wedding day, there’s one she’ll remember forever. A bridesmaid, stationed in South Korea, made an unexpected entrance at the rehearsal dinner, after being denied earlier from military leave. Two days before the wedding, after an eleventh hour approval, Veronica’s last bridesmaid made it just in time for the special day.

“It was like a military coming home moment. I had never seen it in person and to be a part of it was like an out-of-body experience,” says Veronica. “We had changed the flower count, everything, because we assumed she was not coming and when she came I didn’t know how to react. It was so awesome.”
