What: 14k gold, 18k rose gold and sterling silver-plated bracelets with a focus on mindfulness and health goals. The patented bracelets, named Count Me Healthy, are health journals for a woman’s wrist, helping her keep track of goals (think: glasses of water, fruit and vegetable servings, pounds lost and more). Prices range from $50 to $375.
Who: Chelsea Charles’ first position out of college taught her product launch and marketing; her next position was one as a creative director. Her aha moment was reading an article 12 years ago suggesting that the best way to reach health goals was to keep a journal. (Note: This was before there was an app for that.) “I thought, ‘Why not create a fashionable journal women would want to wear ... and could wear with everything?’ ”
She calls the bracelets unapologetically non-tech: Users simply move a bead as each goal is achieved, an act that purposefully engages the senses and also adds the visual aspect of what they’ve achieved, along with the goals remaining.
How: Charles has a few different goals when creating the bracelets and packaging. First and foremost, she says, it has to be pretty. She also considers what users will be tracking. Design and marketing is done in this country; production is currently outsourced.
Never miss a local story.
Health + Style = PR: Charles has been featured on the “Today” show, “The Dr. Oz Show” and in publications such as Shape, Woman’s Day, Elle, Essence, Weight Watchers and Pilates Style. Charles chalks this success up to her bracelets being the first jewelry to physically help the wearer. “I think people are so much about health and style going hand-in-hand,” she says.
Current favorite piece: “This is a toss-up,” she says. “I’m a huge fan of rose gold. I love our Laurel two tone bracelet with rose gold and gold beads ($115). The rich hues of the two metals play off each other and look great with other gold jewelry. And I love our Rose Gold Crystal Bracelet ($148). I get compliments on this style all of the time, especially when wearing as part of a stack.”
