The Siano family makes all of their mozzarellas by hand, working overnight in their office south of uptown Charlotte. They work at night, because it's traditional to have fresh mozzarella ready to go first thing in the morning.
Before international influences reached Charlotte, a previous wave of immigrants made their way to Queen City from the mountains and rural farms of the Carolinas and Appalachia. As textile mills sprung up across Gaston and Mecklenburg counties, so too did did new communities of textile mill workers and their families.
On Friday, 16 campers, ages 7-13, wrapped up a week of culinary camp by preparing a meal for family members at Chef Alyssa's Kitchen. The menu included roasted chicken with BBQ sauce and the fixing's including a watermelon popsicle for dessert.
Scott Brooks makes a cheeseburger, all the way, at Brooks Sandwich House on N. Brevard St. in NoDa. Brooks says the chili, made with a secret family recipe, is one ingredient which makes the sandwiches at Brooks Sandwich Shop special. Kevin Alexander's "The 100 Best Burgers in America" project for Thrillist recently ranked this burger as the 8th best in the country.
