UPDATE: Food Network has added an earlier premier of Alyssa Wilen’s appearance on “Beat Bobby Flay.” In addition to the original air date, 10:30 p.m. June 23, now it also will be show at 10 p.m. Sunday, June 19.
Alyssa Gorelick has had a busy week: Just back from her honeymoon (she’s now Alyssa Wilen, after marrying Andrew Wilen, her partner in Chef Alyssa’s Kitchen), it’s time to get ready to watch herself on the Food Network show “Beat Bobby Flay.”
The show will air June 23 at 10:30 p.m. on the Food Network. In the competition show, two chefs get a secret ingredient and have 20 minutes to make a dish that impresses the judges, friends of Flay. The winner of that round goes on to a second round, cooking against Flay himself.
Wilen can’t give any details about what happens and she can’t reveal the secret ingredient. But she can say who she cooked against – New York-area chef Michael Ginor. Born in Israel, Ginor also is known for his foie gras business.

“I loved that,” she says.
Wilen, who teaches popular cooking classes at Atherton Market, says she has been approached by several Food Network shows. But she liked the Flay show because it isn’t as silly as some of the competition shows.
“What I like -- they really do keep the integrity. Bobby doesn’t know who he’ll cook against.”
While she can’t say anything about the outcome and whether she made it to the second round, she did say she was happy with the experience.
“I had a lot of fun. No fiascos.”
