Sugar Creek scores 2 gold medals
Charlotte’s Sugar Creek Brewing won two gold medals, part of the tally of 19 medals for N.C. beers at the 2016 U.S. Open Beer Championships, held in Oxford, Ohio.
The other N.C. gold-medal winners, announced Monday, were Mystery Brewing in Hillsborough and Lynnwood Brewing in Raleigh. Sugar Creek won in the French/Belgian Ale category for Biere De Garden, and in the Belgian Style Fruit Beer category for Raspberry White. For the full list of winners, go to usopenbeer.com.

Two N.C. food icons, Salisbury-based Cheerwine and Winston-Salem’s Krispy Kreme, released a new collaboration Monday: Cheerwine Kreme, a version of Cheerwine with a flavor formulated to resemble the doughnuts. It will be available at supermarkets, and Krispy Kreme stores will offer free samples July 23.
