We are going to move our patch. Seriously. Maybe not next week but sometime this winter.
Our asparagus patch is right next to the barn on prime real estate. We harvest from it for five to six weeks in the spring. The rest of the year, it is in the way and always gets overgrown with perennial weeds. It drives us crazy! (Short drive I know.)
I am going to at least bush hog the patch and then go in there sometime soon and plow out the rows of crowns. We are going to replant them about 200 yards away from the barn in the furthermost corner of our property like red-headed stepchildren.
Might have some big healthy asparagus crowns available for sale if anyone is interested.
We should have some pork available. We spent an hour and a half last Sunday coaxing our big, old sows, Penny and Stacy, onto the trailer.
And I mean big! Mine and my dad’s estimates on what they weighed were way off.
When we got them 6-7 years ago as piglets, they weighed 50 to 60 pounds and we picked them up by hand and loaded them in my truck.
When we unloaded them at Cruse Meats on Monday morning one went across the scale weighing 790 pounds and the other one weighed 765 pounds.
That’s going to be a lot of sausage ...
