What used to be an area dominated by textile manufacturing and virtually identical mill homes, NoDa now has lots of reasons to visit. The area has evolved to offer a reason for everyone to come for a visit. NoDa, located just two miles from Uptown Charlotte, continues to attract mostly independently owned businesses that offer lively arts and entertainment, unique and outstanding food, as well as a thriving craft beer scene. It’s the perfect setting for couples to enjoy a night out. I must confess – NoDa is one of our favorite places to go sans kids. My husband and I haven’t visited every restaurant – yet, but here is our top three so far!
Birdsong Brewery Company
Never miss a local story.
A group of friends’ unfiltered draft beer creations have turned Birdsong into the top spot in NoDa. In this former and current industrial space, each inside seat comes with a great view of their shiny brewing equipment. If you’re looking for their next greatest brew, show up on Thursdays when they release their newest brew. They don’t have a kitchen, but they have no problem with you bringing in outside food. A good recommendation is the food truck parked just a few steps from their entrance. Birdsong is very pet friendly, so don’t be surprised to see a few dogs lounging under the tables as their owners enjoy a frosty cold one. On most Friday and Saturday nights, live music can be enjoyed.

Cabo Fish Taco
What was already a neighborhood staple, started showing up on everyone’s radar after Cabo Fish Taco was featured on Guy Fieri’s Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives on the Food Network. Their specialty tacos, featuring bbq mahi-mahi, blackened tuna, or beer battered tofu on lightly fried tortillas, are all off the hook. You are also sure to see their house made margaritas making the rounds in the bustling crowd. So, take a ride on the bus to flavor town, but come early or late to avoid the long lines at this hot spot.

When the craving starts for an after dinner sweet treat or a café au lait, there is no better place to satisfy that particular hunger than Amelie’s – a shabby chic Parisian styled café that deserves its reputation for amazing pastries and desserts like éclairs, croissants, crème brulee, and so much more. Don’t let the mis-matched chairs and tables make you hesitate...grab your pastry, take a seat, and the classic Parisian theme pulls it all together. It is filled with numerous nooks of comfy chairs and sofas making it a favorite hangout among Charlotteans. It is open 24 hours a day for all 365 days of the year, so no need to worry if they are open, because they always are.
