A group of media organizations around town has joined together to help local charities that are suffering financially, a project called Mission Possible.
Now, MomsCharlotte is getting in on the action, and we've decided to focus on Classroom Central's School Tools campaign.
Classroom Central collects school supplies for low-income students throughout the Charlotte region. Last year, more than 80,000 students received free supplies.
Since so many of us have kids headed to school, MC thought this would be the perfect volunteer project. Just buy a few extras when you're out, and then donate them. The most-needed supplies include folders, pencils, glue sticks, pens, ruled paper, colored pencils, markers, crayons, highlighters and erasers.
There are hundreds of drop-off stops around town, including Food Lion and Honda dealerships. A special Postal Collection Day is set for Aug. 22, when donor's items will be picked up at mailboxes by carriers. How easy is that?
In addition, sports fans can bring a handful of supplies and get in free to the following baseball games:
Aug. 8, 7 p.m. Hickory Crawdads.
Aug. 22, 7:05 p.m., Kannapolis Intimidators.
Aug. 28, 7:15 p.m. Charlotte Knights.
Volunteers are needed to help sort and organize the supplies, and sites are needed as drop-off points. Those interested in volunteering should call Sarah Porter at 704-377-1740, ext. 14.
