A sleeping second-grader spent about 20 minutes on a frigid bus lot Tuesday morning when the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools driver left the bus without realizing the child was aboard.
A transportation department employee found the child, who was unharmed, on a bus at the district's Craig Street lot after the morning run, spokeswoman Kathleen Johansen said today. The driver is suspended with pay while CMS investigates.
The child attends Elizabeth Traditional, a magnet school that opens at 9:15 a.m. Magnet students often have long bus rides because those schools pull from larger areas than neighorhood schools.
