Mike Mulligan And His Steam Shovel: Catch the Tarradiddle Players performance of Virginia Lee Burton's 1939 classic tale about hard work, determination and friendship Eric Lane Barnes' musical teaches that the newest, biggest or most expensive isn't necessarily the best. Best enjoyed by preschoolers and elementary students. Tickets are $14-$18. 1 p.m. at Wachovia Playhouse.
World Family Festival: This festival celebrates artistic expression and communities around the globe, with particular emphasis on Native American, African, Latin and Asian cultures. Activities will include crafts, music, free performances, and games. 12-3 p.m. at ImaginOn.
A Good Snake!: Join Reedy Creek nature center at 3 p.m. and find out why snakes are important for the ecosystem. You will talk about common North Carolina snakes and live snakes will be present for feeding demonstrations. Free for all ages.
SUNDAY Sleeping Beauty: Don’t miss the classic tale of Sleeping Beauty performed by the Tchaikovsky Ballet, 7 p.m. at Ovens Auditorium. Sleeping Beauty is a beautiful ballet with magic, a love story and it culminates in a perfect wedding. It is the perfect family vehicle for a marvelous experience at the theater. Tickets range from $41-$61.
Fossil Fair 2010: More than a fossil show, this event spotlights all sorts of natural treasures from the earth, including fossils, rocks, minerals and the ancient stories that these items tell. Mine for gemstones like garnets, emeralds and amethyst. Kids can meet animated prehistoric characters, see a full-sized T-rex, make a fossil fish print, search for tiny fossils from the Carolina Coast, and much more. $10 for adults and $9 for children. 1-4 p.m. at the Schiele Museum.
Leap of Faith Dance Company presents Divine Innovations: An afternoon full of inspirational dance performances and live musical entertainment with a spiritual purpose starting at 4 p.m., Center Stage NoDa. Adults $15 and children $12.
