Two North Carolina-based companies - Bank of America and Blue Cross/Blue Shield- made the popular "Working Mother 100 Best Companies List." Companies applied for this top honor and were evaluated via a 500-question survey examining workforce representation, child care, flexibility programs, leave policies and other criteria.
Many companies with local connections in North Carolina, including the financial services group PNC, made the list. "When employees feel valued and supported both professionally and in their personal lives they are more engaged in the workplace," says Kathy D'Appolonia, senior vice president and manager of workplace solutions for PNC. The company has continued its efforts to improve work/life programs. "PNC's continued recognition by Working Mother magazine speaks to the company's efforts to continuously improve our range of work/life programs for employees and their families."
For the first time this year, the survey also listed the best companies that scored highest on the health and wellness portion of the survey. They included Cornell University, Discovery Communications, Ernst & Young, General Mills, Goldman Sachs, Johnson & Johnson, Mercy Health System, Morgan Stanley, Verizon Communications and Wellstar Health System.
Companies rounding out the top 10 overall best list included Bank of America, Deloitte, Ernst & Young, General Mills, Grant Thornton, IBM, KPMG, P&G, PwC and WellStar-Health System. Click to view the complete list.
