The winner: The tutor room door in my school where I was conducting testing was squeaking loudly each time a child entered and exited. The noise was loud and distracting so I took some liquid hand soap and squirted it on the hinges. Voila! No more squeaking! Pool noodles offer tree-swing protection
To add a little extra safety to our tree swing, I padded the base of the tree with pool noodles. Each noodle has a string that runs through it with a slip knot and loop at the top and bottom. The ends of the string are each tied to ropes that wrap the tree. The kids helped by threading the string through the noodles and we put it up in a couple of hours. The noodles were on clearance, so the cost was very reasonable. While it is difficult to get the swing over to the tree when swinging, the padding adds some peace of mind. Tim Hatmaker, Charlotte
Simple trick for remembering meds
Never miss a local story.
Frequently I would forget to take my medicine before bedtime. I put a small lamp on a timer close to the medicine. It comes on each night at 8 and I cut the lamp off after taking the medicine. This way I know if the lamp is still on, I haven't taken the medicine. Robert Morris, Gastonia
