Jason, Lauren and Tyler Peetz know how to “bust a move” when it comes to the dance floor. The Charlotte family has been selected as one of the finalists in the second annual Primrose Schools Family Dance-off national video contest, which raises awareness to fight childhood obesity and benefit Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. The grand prize wins $30,000, which will be donated to Levine Children’s Hospital, and a $5,000 cash prize. The Family Dance-off is part of Primrose’s commitment to happy hearts and healthy bodies in each of its preschools and communities. The Peetz chose Huey Lewis’ “Heart of Rock and Roll” to go with the heart health theme.
The Peetz family heard about the contest from the Primrose School at Afton Village where their son Tyler attends preschool. They thought it was a great opportunity to bring money to their local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital, plus the family loves to dance and be physically active. Lauren and Jason run local gym Victory! Cheerleading, where Lauren choreographs award-winning cheerleading routines and Jason has coached the Charlotte 49ers’ nationally ranked cheerleaders. Jason also regularly competes in triathlons. They try to incorporate as much physical activity into Tyler’s life as possible by taking him to the YMCA, going on family walks and trips to the park, and serving him a healthy diet of whole grains, fruits and vegetables.
Besides just the dancing fun, the Family Dance-off’s mission to fight childhood obesity is very important to the Peetz family. “Physical activity is the foundation for a strong body and strong mind. It's never too early to instill in our children the value of physical fitness because what better gift can we give our children than the tools to live a long and healthy life?” Lauren says.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, the national childhood obesity rate has tripled in the last 30 years. At Primrose Schools nationwide, children learn healthy lifestyle habits through purposeful play and physical activity.
Never miss a local story.
In order to bring the donation to Levine Children’s Hospital, the Peetz family needs the most votes. Go to FamilyDanceoff.com to vote up to five times a day from March 20-26.
