In case you’ve been living under a rock and haven’t heard, Charlotte will host the Democratic National Convention in September. Having First Lady Michelle Obama in our midst is a style-lovers dream come true, until it starts messing with the plans for the city’s annual fashion throw down. (I kid, I kid we’d welcome FLOTUS at any time really!)
In previous years, Lotus owner Effie Loukas has held Charlotte’s edition of Fashion’s Night Out on the first night of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in New York (following the international phenom started by Vogue’s Anna Wintour in 2009). This year, that falls on Sept. 6, the same night President Barack Obama is expected to accept his party’s nomination at Bank of America stadium in our fair city.
So what do savvy fashionistas in Charlotte do? They move the chic party, of course. Style Night Out (as the Charlotte event is called for 2012 — it’s only Fashion’s Night Out if it’s held the same day as the Vogue event) will be held on Thursday, Sept. 13 at the Shops at Morrison. The event is expected to feature more than 30 locally-owned boutiques, 27 hair salons and countless make-up artists and stylists. Tickets are not on sale yet, but pricing and additional details should be released soon.
The SouthPark area will be buzzing on the 13th with stylish energy, as luxury fave Neiman Marcus will hold their annual fall fashion event that night as well.
I will be ready for some fierce fashion once Hurricane DNC has blown through town. How about you?
