Like many, I’ve never been a huge fan of Valentine’s Day. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy chocolate and flowers as much as the next girl. But having just one day of the year dedicated to love seems rather measly to the hopeless romantic in me.
This is why I hope you’ll find uses for this issue throughout the year—something that shouldn’t be hard to do. Take, for example, the 25 different dates we’ve created in our “Save the Date” package. From an elegant night of jazz and upscale dining to a Saturday afternoon brewery hop, you can consider this your cheat sheet for fun outings year round. Oh, and those chocolates? We found handcrafted local versions so decadent and sweet you definitely won’t want to limit your intake to any one day or even month.
Some of my favorite things about working on this issue were the unexpected love stories we discovered. When we asked Chris Woodrow of South End’s Vin Master if he had a wine to inspire romance, he shared a bottle with a backstory that sounds like it’s straight from the pages of a novel. Even our article about 5Church’s chef Jamie Lynch came with a charming twist as he and his Cheshire Dinner Society partner, Courtney Valvo, revealed their January 31st wedding plans in an interview.
And so it seems almost every story in this issue offers a touch of romance—whether we’d planned it that way or not. I’m calling that fate, but that’s probably just the romantic in me talking again.
