I am somewhat of a mascara freak. Perhaps it’s what having invisible lashes will do to you. If I don’t wear mascara, my nearly-white lashes all but disappear, and I look like I’m squinting, but I’m not.
That being said, I have long been a fan of mascara that delivers falsies-without-the-glue style plump lashes. Often, mascara like that is full of fillers and fibers that flake off as soon as you apply.
That is not the case with Healthy Volume Mascara, which was sent to me by my friends at Neutrogena. While I didn’t see the insanely boastful 400 percent increase in volume that the packaging promises, I was pleased with the results. To a point.
The formulation is drier than most, which is great for buildability, as in a single coat will produce a more natural look, additional coats increase volume and spider-eyeness (which sometimes a girl likes to have. Or maybe that’s just me).
Wearability was remarkable — little to no flaking or smudging, even after a long day of work followed by a night now.
My problem with Healthy Volume? It was nearly impossible to remove. So much so, I had to double check to see if I had been sent a waterproof version (nope). I generally take my eye makeup off with non-oily remover pads, but after trying to take off this mascara, I ended up looking like a raccoon.
Even after washing my face with Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash, I still had dark circles under my eyes the next day. $7.99 at Target, Ulta and most drug stores
