With school coming to a close in the near future, I thought I would encourage you to get the summer gear organized before trips to the park, the pool, and camp ensue.
Tip #1: Organize gear by the door or car Think garage, laundry room, or mudroom. This will make grabbing necessities quick and easy. Not to mention, it makes putting it back even easier! Eureka!
Tip #2: Store gear in bins without lids If you have the storage space, then I highly recommend using shelves to store the gear. Go with lidless bins as it is easier to grab and go and easier to put back when the day is done.
Tip #3: Add hooks Add hooks on the wall in the garage or laundry room. Teach kids to hang wet towels there to dry before piling on the floor.
Tip #4: Gather supplies and always have back ups handy Sunscreen. Towels. Goggles. Plastic grocery bags (for wet towels and suits). Pool toys. Park toys. You will get out of the door faster if you have everything stored and organized in one place. Tip #5: Get the kids involved Taking the time to teach the kids where to find the summer gear will pay dividends in the long run. Teach them that everything has a place. If they are looking for goggles, then they should be able to find them without screaming “Mooom, where are my goggles?”
Also teach them why it is important to put items back where you found them. It will take some time before they completely catch on, but trust me, it is worth the investment!
What do you have planned for this summer break?
Until next time.. Jennifer
