Charlotte’s favorite summer concert series, Pops in the Park, kicks off on Sunday nights this month at Symphony Park. We’ve found some helpful hints for making the most of the popular evenings under the stars.

Snack: The nearby Block & Grinder offers all of the necessary provisions, which can be customized for a Pops in the Park picnic for two or twelve. Call ahead to reserve a “no assembly required” picnic filled with popular house-made offerings like charcuterie, artisan cheeses, and spreads. With options like fennel salami, wild boar sopressata, Foenegreek Gouda cheese, pimento cheese and smoked chicken salad, this won’t be your typical to-go picnic. Add accompaniments like pickled vegetables, grain mustard, and red pepper jam to any package as well as a case of local, craft beer or a bottle of vino. Items are packed in disposable coolers with essentials including utensils and throwaway wine glasses. Prices vary.
Sip: Pack a thermos filled with an easy-sipping summer cocktail like this recipe from SouthPark’s Palm Restaurant.

2 ounces bourbon
1/2 ounce simple syrup1/2 ounce fresh lime juice
1/2 ounce fresh lemon juice
4 slices of cucumber
3 sprigs of mint
Splash of ginger ale
Style: "Pops in the park is such a great time and place to show off your summer style. For men and women, it's all about lightweight layers, and mixing fun prints with solid basics. For women, a great, easy summer trend to try is a gladiator sandal with a lightweight flowy dress or a cute short and tunic ensemble. For men, layer a short-sleeve button down over a T, and roll up those sleeves for a fitted look or try a pop of color in a casual short or pant.”- Local stylist Erica Hanks
