The most difficult problem buddy trippers encounter when taking a road trip to Georgia’s St. Simons Island is deciding how to spend their vacation time amongst the many choices awaiting them. St. Simons is the most westerly island on the eastern seaboard making for tidal shifts of up to 12 feet every six hours. This creates a corresponding ecosystem that is a delight for birders, boaters and fishermen. This Golden Isle is packed with outdoor adventures including five championship golf courses, tidal marshes teaming with sport fish, 70+ miles of paved bike trails, pristine broad beaches, paddle boarding, boating or simply relaxing and enjoying some of the area’s best low country cuisine. Only 330 miles from SouthPark, it’s an easy 4.5 hour drive. St. Simons is within ready reach for boys on the hunt for golf trips, father/son get-ways or a truly special bachelor party destination.
Where to stay
A true gem of southern hospitality, The King and Prince Beach and Golf Resort tops more “Best of” lists than any other local property and for good reason. The largest resort on St. Simons, the K&P has entertained notables for nearly eight decades. Yet they retain a small, boutique feel with a prideful and attentive staff. Their 2014 multi-million dollar atrium lobby, restaurant and bar renovation offers guys a welcome backdrop for planning daily outings. Multiple bedroom, full kitchen equipped villas and adjacent property island homes are available for the complete guy-bonding experience.www.kingandprince.com

Pizza lovers must stop at Sal’s Neighborhood Pizzeria where New Jersey pie guy Sal Cenicola, a former lightweight champion boxer, is in the ring. Cenicola sparred with Roberto Duran and Sylvester Stalone, but it’s his signature pies that will knock you out.
When you’re in St. Simons, the place to go for barbeque is Southern Soul. Ribs, brisket and Brunswick stew keep the hungriest guys at bay but don’t miss the crunchy on the outside, soft and buttery on the inside hushpuppies – absolutely the best.www.southernsoulbbq.com
