Last week we asked you to tell us your favorite ice cream. Here are the honorable mentions.
Paige Leggett: My mother was crazy about Rum Raisin ice cream at Baskin & Robbins. She would anticipate the fall season coming knowing her favorite, Rum Raisin, would be available. We would stop after church on Wednesday nights for ice cream and I can remember her delight as she took that first taste each fall season. My brothers and I thought it was the most disgusting color and taste for ice cream, but she loved it. A fond memory.
Jeanne Burk, Denver: This is an extremely difficult question, because there are so many yummy flavors of ice cream! I will have to go with chocolate chunk peanut butter (good protein in the peanut butter, so I can say that I'm eating healthy!)
April Slappey: By far, my idea ofpure bliss is found in a small carton of Ben & Jerry's Creme Brulee ice cream.Veins of crunchy, crystallized sugar run through asweet, creamy ice cream base - the perfect texture and balance of sweetness. And my tip for an even better ice cream experience: I put the spoon in the freezer 10 minutes before indulging so that it is nice and cold.Heaven!
Submitted by Lois Strain about her son Thomas, 4: My Mom recently came to visit. The other night over ice cream dessert, she told my four-year-old son to stop playing with his food.Thomas replied, "But Mom Mom, I am making my SECRET RECIPE." She asked him to tell her about the recipe. Here is his reply: Well, you get one brownie (or chocolate cake) and one BIG scoop of vanilla ice cream. Put it in the bowl and you chop and mix for 2 minutes. Use a metal spoon, 'cause the plastic ones break! When the black stuff is on the spoon it is almost ready. Mix and chop another 2 minutes and stir. Maybe another minute and then eat it all gone. You know it is finished when the cake melts into the ice cream. When asked what he called his SECRET RECIPE, he replied "Cookies and Cream!”
Beau Briggs, 6, Charlotte: I love chocolate chip cookie dough. It has chocolate chips and dough. If somebody doesn't like it, they've never lived. You can have it in chocolate or vanilla. You can get a cherry on top. I would clean my whole house for it.
Jacob Osborne, 10, Charlotte: I like a lot of ice-cream flavors, but my favorite is Cookies and Cream. Cookies and Cream is vanilla ice cream with big chunks of soft Oreos. Who wouldn't like it?
Will Osborne, 7, Charlotte: I like chocolate cookie dough ice cream the best. It is special because I like the creamy chocolate ice cream and when you put a piece of cookie dough in your mouth it is chewy.
Lisa Gensemer: My favorite flavor of ice cream is Ben and Jerry's Cherry Garcia. As a treat for myself after a hard week of being retired with my husband and listening to his aches and pains I feel like I deserve a special treat.
I will take my little container of Cherry Garcia and add a little milk to it and then go hide and eat it. I want it all to myself - if I don't hide my husband may ask for some. If he asks very nicely I may share – just depends on how I feel. Hope I win and then I can share with my whole family!!!
Phoebe Lynn, 6: My favorite ice cream is everything. Why? Because it (ice cream) is the best!
Sebastian Gust, 8: My favorite ice cream is Cookies and Cream because it tastes like Oreos!
Cathey McClew: Summers in my small home town in Tennessee consisted of homemade ice cream at every family reunion and after church dinners. All the children played while the grown-ups visited. Many times the children got to sit on the freezer while the grown-ups cranked. I remember all the ice and salt that we used. The hardest part was waiting for the ice cream to “set.” But, sometimes we had a treat when the dasher was removed and we got to taste the ice cream. My husband and I have a White Mountain ice cream freezer in our garage that was given to us as a wedding present. We don't use it now since it is so easy to get good ice cream. I enjoy all kinds of ice cream but my very favorite is homemade peach ice cream in the middle of a hot July day. Thanks for letting me revisit good memories.
Marlo Morgan, 3: My favorite ice cream is chocolate with rainbow sprinklesbecause it's yummy!
Jillian Morgan, 6: My favorite ice cream is Lemonade Sorbet at Ben & Jerry's because my favorite drink is lemonade and it tastes exactly like that except sweeter and colder!
Donna Focht, Charlotte: If Edy's Chocolate Fudge Brownie Ice Cream is waiting for me after I die,
then I will know I have gone to Heaven!
Mae Strauss, 6: My favorite kindof ice cream flavor is Mint Chocolate Chip. Why? Because it is delicious.
Lisa Brantmeyer: My favorite flavor is Coffee, coffee, BUZZ, BUZZ! It is like eating a cup of coffee and gives your mouth a textural experience. Our family loves Ben and Jerry's.
Lori Perry: What, ONE favorite flavor or novelty??? How can I pick one? For comfort I pick Chocolate Chocolate Chip. For fun I pick Moosetracks. Sometimes good old Vanilla (soft serve with sprinkles.) Anything with nuts - except pistachio - or fruit such as cherries makes me feel healthy. I am such an ice cream fan, I hardly ever get the same thing twice in a row - I feel the need to experience different flavors and combinations. Coffee with nuts and fudge is good as is dark chocolate with raspberry and almonds.Choco Tacos are good as are fresh Drumsticks and Flying Saucers. I have passed my love of ice cream down to my daughter and we enjoy a pint with two spoons - one for me and one for her! On a once in a lifetime trip to Italy, I ate gelato one to three times a day for 10 days!
Wanda Huntley, Charlotte: Dairy Queen Vanilla ice cream with a hard chocolate shell...the contrast of the soft ice cream with the hard crunchy shell of chocolate is unrivaled. Not to mention the cherished childhood memory of shoving money through that little screen window at the Dairy Queen! Current memories of sharing Dairy Queen ice cream with best friends, even as adults, gives me the same happy feeling.
Robert Weinzetl: Try this--you'll love it: Take two sugar free macadamia nut cookies and place ice cream between them for a great sandwich treat
