International piano competition
The Hilton Head International Piano Competition for Young Artist, March 4-9 at First Presbyterian Church, in Hilton Head, S.C., has 20 international pianists, ages 13-17, competing for cash prizes totaling $11,500. The opening rounds are March 4-5 and March 6-7 (one-day ticket: $12; four-day: $40) and the finals will be at 7 p.m. March 9 (tickets: $35, $50 and $65)/ Details: Robeson County History Museum in Lumberton hosts “Journey Stories,” a traveling Smithsonian exhibit, through April 6. “Journey Stories” focuses on how ancestors came to America, with a specific look at how advancements in transportation affected people. NASCAR’s Andretti at lawn/garden show
Indy 500 and NASCAR driver John Andretti will take the stage at noon March 16 during the Western North Carolina Home, Lawn & Garden Show, staged at U.S. Cellular Center in downtown Asheville. The show, held March 15-17, features products and services for the home and garden. Besides Andretti’s appearance (with a meet-and-greet session starting at 1 p.m.), this spring’s show will feature antique appraising by nationally acclaimed Brunk Auctions, do-it-yourself classes and more.
