Hiker/author on book tour
Danny Bernstein, author of “The Mountains-to-Sea Trail Across North Carolina: Walking a Thousand Miles Through Wildness, Culture and History,” will be at Jesse Brown Outdoors, 4732 Sharon Road (Sharon Corners) at 6:30 p.m. March 21. Bernstein’s book, published this spring ($19.99; History Press) is about the state-designated hiking trail that extends from Clingmans Dome, in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, to the Outer Banks. Her session at Jesse Brown Outdoors is free to attend.

The North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher will celebrate Easter with an “Alligator Egg Hunt” at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. March 23, 29 and 30. At the program, recommended for ages 3-10, participants can see a live baby alligator and learn about these reptiles, create an alligator egg basket and search for candy-filled “alligator eggs.” Pre-registration required (event is an early sell-out). ‘Old-time’ music event in Surry County
The fourth annual Surry Old Time Fiddlers Convention takes place March 22-23 at Surry Community College. Highlights include a Friday night dance with three bands, Saturday jam sessions and fiddling competitions and workshops led by artists who are expert in old-time music. Snoopy and friends to board GSMR
Great Smoky Mountains Railroad, now in its 25th year, brings back the Peanuts gang March 29-30 for “The Peanuts Easter Beagle Express,” featuring Easter egg hunts, prizes, candy and appearances by Snoopy and friends. The train leaves Bryson City at 11 a.m. and travels along the Tuckaseegee River to Dillsboro for a 90-minute layover. Advance tickets required; seating is limited.
