Museum chronicles rise of resort area
The Beech Mountain History Museum opened July 16 in the same-name Western North Carolina town. The museum, in the former Works of Wood building at 305 Beech Mountain Parkway, is a project of the Beech Mountain Historical Society. The initial exhibit, “Mile-High Vision: the Birth of Beech as a Resort,” uses photos, maps and memorabilia to showcase the area’s development. Besides the growth of skiing, the exhibit has a section devoted to the Land of Oz theme park that operated there in the 1970s. Hours: 1-4 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday. Admission: Free.
