Great Smoky Mountains Railroad’s annual RailFest is two days devoted to railroading, food, storytelling, events and special excursions. The big attraction is a visit by a steam locomotive that will offer rides Sept. 14-15 from Bryson City to Whittier throughout the weekend. A Sept. 15 dinner excursion is offered. The autumn 2013 incarnation of Charleston Restaurant Week, through Sept. 15, includes more than 15 new participants among its lineup of more than 130 restaurants. Also new: hotel and inn deals.
