Sipping wine at North Carolina’s Yadkin Valley wineries adds to holiday fun, and buying vintages when you’re at an event or wine tour can shorten your shopping list.

At Deck the Halls (www.surrywineries.com), you can receive a wine tasting, hand-crafted ornament, a keepsake glass and wine-related recipe from 10 Surry County wineries. The promotion, which runs Nov. 15 through Jan. 15, costs $60 per person ($95 per couple) and covers a visit to each. On weekends, some participants offer live music and/or food pairings. Wineries involved: Brushy Mountain, Carolina Heritage, Grassy Creek, Elkin Creek, McRitchie, Olde Mill, Round Peak, Slightly Askew, Stony Knoll and Surry Oak.

At Childress Vineyards in Lexington, there’s a Tasting Room Open House Nov. 15 (www.childressvineyards.com); Shelton Vineyards in Dobson holds a Holiday Open House Nov. 23-24 (www.sheltonvineyards.com); in Ronda, the Vineyards of Swan Creek – Raffaldini, Laurel Gray, Windsor Run (formerly Buck Shoals), Dobbins Creek and Shadow Springs – stage a free Holiday Open House on Dec. 8 (www.raffaldini.com).

Yadkin Valley Wine Tours (www.yadkinwinetours.com) offers all-day trips leaving from Advance (between Lexington and Yadkinville) that include transportation, lunch, tasting fees and a tour guide. Typical tours visit four wineries/vineyards. Upcoming public events include a Veterans Day weekend tour (Nov. 9) and a Christmas wine tour (Dec. 14).
