The spring-long series of displays at Biltmore House, grouped under the title Biltmore Blooms ( http://bit.ly/1gbDpJp) continues through May 23. Biltmore’s outdoor evening concert series ( www.biltmore.com/events) will be July 30-Aug. 28.
The 25th annual Asheville Herb Festival ( www.wncherbfestival.com) is May 2-4 at the Western North Carolina Farmers Market. Exhibitors include herb growers and vendors and makers of herbal products ranging from balms to soaps to teas.
In Black Mountain, the twice-a-year LEAF – Lake Eden Arts Festival ( www.theleaf.com) – has its spring incarnation May 8-11. The popular event on the former site of Black Mountain College combines music, art and culture.
Asheville’s Mountain Sports Festival ( www.mountainsportsfestival.com) returns May 23-25 to Carrier Park with family-style athletic activities, from runs to dodgeball, disc golf to bike races.
The Shindig on the Green series ( http://bit.ly/O9Zpdd) resumes June 28 and continues most Saturday evenings with free outdoor concerts, typically bluegrass and old-time music, on the green downtown at Pack Square Park. A related event – the Mountain Dance & Folk Festival ( www.folkheritage.org) – is July 31-Aug. 2 in Diana Wortham Theatre at Pack Place.
At the Craft Fair of the Southern Highlands (July 17-20; ( http://bit.ly/1lkMhNv), more than 200 artisans will display and sell their traditional and contemporary work downtown in the US Cellular Center. John Bordsen
