Barack Obama will bring an end to this year's presidential politicking in North Carolina when he visits the UNC Charlotte campus for a rally late this afternoon.
The event is open to the public, but parking is limited and rally-goers will need to consider taking a shuttle bus to the event. There also is a chance of rain.
Obama, the Democratic presidential nominee, will appear at 5:30 p.m. at Hayes Athletic Field, at UNCC's baseball stadium. Doors are scheduled to open at 3 p.m.
Officials had set up the stage before daybreak today, and rally organizers have set up a plan to handle those who can't find a parking spot on campus. The overflow parking site is at Verizon Amphitheatre, on Pavilion Boulevard. Buses will carry people to the rally site.
With North Carolina considered a toss-up state, both Obama and Republican candidate John McCain have made several stops in the Tar Heel state during the campaign -- as have the vice presidential candidates, Democrat Joe Biden and the GOP's Sarah Palin. In fact, Palin was in Raleigh and McCain in Fayetteville on Friday.
This is Obama's eighth trip to North Carolina.
Forecasters -- the weather variety, not political -- say there is a 30 percent chance of showers for today's outdoor rally at UNCC. Cloudy skies and temperatures in the lower 60s are predicted.
