Catawba's health: CPCC program topic

What is the real condition of the Catawba River and the surrounding watershed?

That will be the topic Thursday evening, when CPCC's Center for Sustainability presents "The Catawba River Film Festival," a series of four films followed by a discussion. Joining CPCC in sponsoring the event is the Catawba Riverkeeper Foundation. The program will be at 6:30 p.m., in Pease Auditorium on CPCC's Central campus.

The films are "Water First," "Once Upon a Tide," "Birth Place of the Winds" and "Clean Water Common Ground." The movies explore issues such as the world water crisis, ocean conservation, kayaking and recreation, and conservation.

Members of the discussion panel are David Merryman of the Catawba Riverkeeper organization; Bruce Henderson, environmental writer for the Observer; state Sen. Dan Clodfelter; and Ernie McLaney, program coordinator for the CPCC Center for Sustainability.

Tickets are $5, and free parking is available in the faculty/theater parking deck, off East 4th Street.
