This week in Charlotte, Mecklenburg govt.

Here is a quick rundown of some government meetings this week in Mecklenburg County.

All meetings are held at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center, 600 E. Fourth St. Parking is available in the deck on Davidson Street between Third and Fourth streets.

Charlotte City Council

When: 5 p.m. tonight

Where: Room 267, government center

Agenda highlights: The Housing Trust Fund will present its recommendations for nine multifamily rental and special needs housing developments that it believes should receive $9.3 million in funding from the city. Among the projects: a proposed 120-unit apartment complex from Steele Creek Seniors LLC and an 80-bed facility for United Family Services to house victims of domestic violence and their children. The council is expected to vote on the recommendations June 22.

The council also will learn about a new initiative from the Historic Landmarks Commission and receive an update on development at Charlotte/Douglas International Airport. A citizen's forum is set for 7:30p.m.

Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners

When: 6 p.m. Tuesday; 5 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday

Where: Chamber, government center

Agenda Highlights: Tuesday the county will resume a public hearing on proposed changes to stormwater fees. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services wants to create a four-tier billing system based on the amount of impervious surface area. The board will receive an update on the legality of offering retiree health benefits to former commissioners and consider business investment grants: one worth $46,968 to Toshiba America Nuclear Energy and a second worth $1.48 million to Siemens Energy.

On Wednesday and Thursday, the board will hold workshops on the proposed budget.
