It will be longest nonstop flight from Charlotte, but you can't complain about the scenery once you get there.
US Airways plans to begin nonstop flights from Charlotte to Honolulu, Hawaii, on Dec. 17, giving the Charlotte airport its only straight shot to the nation's 50th state. The airline will use a Boeing 767 that seats 204 passengers for the year-round service.
At 10 hours and 14 minutes, the flight to Hawaii will be longer than US Airways' flights from Charlotte to Frankfurt, Germany, and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, said Michelle Mohr, a US Airways spokeswoman.
US Airways has its largest hub in Charlotte, where it operates more than 85 percent of the airport's 655 daily flights. The carrier also flies to four of the Hawaiian Islands from Phoenix.
The daily flight will depart Charlotte at 9:45 a.m. and arrive at 2:59 p.m. Hawaii time. The return flight will depart at 5:45 p.m. and arrive at 7:42 a.m. Charlotte time.
Tickets are available now, although Mohr didn't know how much fares would be to start. Round-trip tickets were listed Saturday afternoon at $928, plus taxes and fees, according to the US Airways Web site.
