No injuries were reported, but a number of residents on an east Charlotte street got an early wake-up call this morning when a huge limb crashed onto a house.
Amazingly, police say, the female resident of the house slept through the incident.
It happened about 3:30 a.m. on Chipley Avenue, off Monroe Road in the Chantilly neighborhood.
A part of the tree, perhaps weakened by disease or the severe drought of several years ago, landed on top of the house. Police were concerned initially that the resident might have been injured, but they eventually were able to rouse the woman, who was not hurt.
It marked at least the third time in the last month that a tree or a large part of an old tree fell in east or southeast Charlotte.
