Gosselin says she might make gab her career

By Mark Washburn

Kate Gosselin, who shot to fame as the mother of twins and sextuplets on the TLC series "Jon & Kate Plus 8" and then became tabloid fodder when her marriage fell apart this year, said Thursday her next career move might be a talk show.

"I've been given the gift of gab, so why not use it?" Gosselin, 34, told an audience at the Southern Women's Show in Charlotte. Gosselin came to the event to answer questions and sign copies of her books.

Appearing with her new hairdo and with a diamond still sparkling on her left ring finger, Gosselin said she spent an extra day in New York this week when ABC's "The View" asked her to extend her visit as a guest host.

"It is sort of like a career move, so I had to do it," she said.

Though known for her control issues in managing a house with eight small children, Gosselin was 15 minutes late for her appearance, which drew a crowd of about 700 at the Park, formerly the Charlotte Merchandise Mart.

Gosselin said last year before the breakup, she and her husband, Jon, had considered moving from Pennsylvania and building a house in North Carolina. But the timing didn't work out, she said, and they were reluctant to be so far from family and friends.

"Our kids' school and our church kept us there," she said. "It was scary to move so far away."

Answering questions from the audience, Gosselin also said:

Her house may be neat as a pin, but her private space is a different matter. "My bedroom and my closet ... it's a dumping ground."

She has a cookbook coming out this autumn and is thinking about writing another book focusing on the drama in her life lately.

Gosselin reviews episodes of the TLC show before they air, but rarely watches any television. One of her favorite activities is reading books in the kitchen to her children.

When a woman told Gosselin she identifies with her because she recently broke up with her boyfriend, Gosselin answered: "I don't think you want to talk to me about boyfriends or breaking up."

One woman asked Gosselin what she misses about her estranged husband.

"I miss Jon," she replied. "The Jon that I used to know."
