Community meetings on Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools' controversial 2010 boundary-change options begin today and continue through next week.
From 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today at Myers Park High, 2400 Colony Road, officials will present details of plans to relieve crowding at Eastover Elementary. Options include moving some students in the Eastover zone to First Ward Elementary, possibly combined with a building swap between First Ward and Dilworth Elementary, an arts magnet. Another option would leave Eastover's boundaries intact but switch the buildings used by Eastover, a neighborhood school, and Myers Park Traditional, a magnet school.
From 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at East Mecklenburg High, 6800 Monroe Road, staff will outline options for moving some International Baccalaureate magnet students from Myers Park High, which has almost 3,000 students, to East Meck, which will have about half that many next year. Board members scrapped a proposal to move the Cotswold Elementary zone from Myers Park to East.
The same information will be repeated at meetings next week. All meetings will include time for the public to ask questions and make suggestions, which can be incorporated into revised proposals.
A public hearing and board vote are planned for Nov. 10.
