Classroom Central celebrated its seventh birthday Thursday by giving away $46,000 worth of pens, pencils, notebooks and other school supplies at Thomasboro and Druid Hills elementary schools in Charlotte.
At Druid Hills, second-grader Jamonta Alford reached into his surprise supplies bag after hearing cheers from classmates.
Volunteers from Classroom Central – which funnels public donations of money and supplies to low-income students throughout the region – were also on hand to blow out candles on a birthday cake.
Since 2002, Classroom Central has distributed more than $17 million in school supplies.
