Sealed Air Corp., the maker of Bubble Wrap that announced last summer it’s moving its headquarters to Charlotte, has purchased Intellibot Robotics LLC, a privately owned company that develops robotic commercial floor cleaning machines.
Portland, Ore.-based Intellibot will be integrated into Sealed Air’s Diversey Care division, according to a statement released Wednesday. The acquisition includes sales, certain intellectual property as well as manufacturing and engineering at Intellibot’s operations in Richmond, Va.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Sealed Air said it does not expect the deal “to be material” to its consolidated financial position or results of operation.
“The combination of Diversey Care’s industry expertise and global reach and Intellibot’s artificial intelligence technology will help accelerate the development of the robotic floor cleaning machines market – ultimately driving efficiencies and business value for the hygiene industry,” Ilham Kadri, president of Diversey Care, said in a statement.
Sealed Air bought Diversey Care in 2011 and has undergone several years of structural changes since. The company has said moving its headquarters from New Jersey to Charlotte will bring almost 1,300 jobs to the area. State and local incentives total about $43 million for the project.
The new headquarters in southwest Charlotte should be finished by the end of 2016.
