Broyhill Furniture will consolidate its upholstery operations at a 650,000-square-foot plant in Lenoir, its parent company announced Thursday.
About 670 employees from Taylorsville and Lenoir will move to the plant, St. Louis-based Furniture Brands International said. Company officials also expect to create more than 400 new jobs in the next three years.
Caldwell County and the city of Lenoir put together a $2 million incentive package, which state officials matched with a grant, to get Broyhill to stay in North Carolina. The company had considered another location in northern Mississippi, and a move there would have meant the loss of more than 1,200 jobs in North Carolina.
It will cost about $5 million to get the Lenoir plant ready for production, county officials said, with operations starting early next year.
