E-filing rises 15% in Carolinas
More taxpayers in the Carolinas, and nationally, filed their income tax returns electronically this year than any other year, the Internal Revenue Service said Wednesday.
More than 64 percent of N.C. returns, about 2.6 million, and more than 75 percent in South Carolina, another 1.4 million, used e-filing, IRS spokesman Mark Hanson said. The usage increased by about 15 percent in both states, he said.
Nationally, about 58 percent of all returns were filed electronically, covering nearly 90 million returns.

Paper Source to open soon at Phillips Place
Paper Source, a Chicago-based stationery chain, will open its first Charlotte store Nov. 22 at Phillips Place.
The shop, one of three new locations the company is opening across the country this month, will sell cards, papers and accessories in a range of shapes and sizes, using an exclusive warm color palette.
Paper Source operates stores mostly in street-level, pedestrian-friendly areas in larger urban markets such as Boston, Chicago and San Francisco, and has recently moved into the South, with stores in Atlanta and Dallas. The chain says Charlotte fits into that mix nicely and was attracted to the range of tenants and open-air environment at Phillips Place, according to a news release.
