Job fair next week looks to hire more than 500 for new Concord waterpark
A new waterpark resort in Concord will hold a job fair next week with the goal of hiring more than 500 employees, the company said Thursday.
Great Wolf Lodge will hold the job fair Feb. 5-7 at Lowe's Motor Speedway. The 475,000-square-foot complex is scheduled to open at the end of March off Interstate 85's Exit 49.
The resort includes an 80,000-square-foot indoor water park and more than 400 guest suites. Jobs are available in all departments, including housekeeping, spa services, the waterpark, retail, front desk, maintenance, and food and beverage.
Hourly, salaried and supervisory positions are available. The job fair will be noon-8 p.m. Thursday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. next Friday and 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Feb. 7 at the speedway, 5555 Concord Parkway South. Applications also can be submitted online at www.greatwolf.com/concord/careers.
Mercedes Homes files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy
Melbourne, Fla.-based Mercedes Homes, whose Carolinas subsidiary was active in the Charlotte area housing market, filed this week for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
The private company said it plans to reorganize and expects to have money available for unsecured creditors. It listed its largest unsecured creditor as Fifth Third Bank, which it owes about $7.1 million.
The company, also active in the Florida and Texas markets, has built about 40,000 homes since its founding in 1983.
$1 million renovation complete at Randolph Medical Park
Cogdell Spencer Inc. has completed a $1 million renovation at Randolph Medical Park on Randolph Road in south Charlotte.
The park, built in 1972, is owned and managed by the Charlotte real estate investment trust.
The two-building project began in the fall of 2007 and includes new flooring, elevator cabs and restroom updates plus such sustainable features as water-conservation fixtures, drought-tolerant native landscaping and energy-efficient lighting.
IRS has special Saturday hours for income tax filing help
An IRS office in Charlotte and Hickory will have special Saturday hours for three weekends to provide free income tax filing help for taxpayers earning less than $42,000 a year. Taxpayers earning less than that also may be eligible for an earned income tax credit of up to about $4,800.
The Charlotte office at 10715 David Taylor Drive, and in Hickory at 115 Fifth Ave. N.W. will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Saturday, plus Feb. 7 and Feb. 21. The free assistance also is available during normal business hours during the week.
