BB&T BallPark is getting a little closer to completion.
Contractors used a huge crane to lift panels into place Friday for the stadium’s main videoboard. The ballpark is the new home for the Charlotte Knights baseball club, which will begin playing at BB&T this season.
Season ticket fans entered the stadium to pick their seats and take family photos.
The main videoboard, located in left-center field, will be 30 feet high by 82 feet wide. The video will play in high definition, and has nearly 3 million LED lamps.
The videoboard will give fans at BB&T Ballpark a front-row seat to all of the team’s on-field promotions and in-game entertainment, as well as up-to-the-minute scores, highlights and instant replays. It is the largest of its kind in the International League and is six times larger than the team’s previous one at Knights Stadium in Fort Mill.
Some smaller videoboards were installed earlier this week.• A 14-by-35-foot LED exterior video display facing Romare Bearden Park.
• An 8-by-120-foot LED ribbon board display along the right-field wall.
• Two 3-by-32 1/2-foot fascia ribbon LED displays along the upper level façade on both sides of the ballpark.
Workers were busy mowing the field and compacting the baselines. Seats were being power-washed, and other signs were going up in the stadium, including banners with the Knights name and logos on the outside areas.
