Officials broke ground Friday for a new 177-unit luxury apartment complex across West Fourth Street from the new BB&T Ballpark.
The new property, being built by Balfour Beatty Construction for Spectrum Properties, occupies a 1.4-acre site on the same block where a branch of the U.S. Mint was until 1933.
“Unlike the modern look of the high-rise residences around it, The Mint will offer a classic, timeless feel,” Spectrum President Steve McClure said.
It will also offer a two-floor parking deck and amenities including a pet elevator and sky terrace, as well as personal concierge service to help with dry cleaning, reservations or car services.
The Mint marks the latest apartment building to sprout near the baseball stadium. Childress-Klein in January topped out its 22-story Element Uptown property beside Romare Bearden Park. Eric Frazier
