Demolition is underway at the Plaza Fiesta mall on Interstate 77 in Fort Mill, S.C., as crews tear it down to make way for a Cabela’s outdoor and sporting goods store.
The new Cabela’s is slated to be 97,500 square feet and will sell gear for hunting, fishing, camping, hiking and other outdoor activities. It will also feature an indoor archery range, a replica of a mountain, an aquarium and “museum-quality wildlife displays.”
Cabela’s is headquartered in Nebraska, and the company has said it will open its Fort Mill store in spring 2015.
Plaza Fiesta, on 20 acres, had long been a landmark on the interstate south of Charlotte.
The mall featured an indoor play area for children and had catered to the region’s growing Hispanic population in recent years. Ely Portillo
